Life cycle assessment application in the optimum design of reinforced concrete structures

Abstract The objective of this research was to evaluate the use Life Cycle Assessment methodology assist decision-making in structural projects reinforced concrete. Were studied models for an eight-story building, with classes compressive strength (fck) concrete ranging from 25 50 MPa. Also, were evaluated changes dimensions elements, as well consumption component materials structure. Results showed that C40 obtained best results 67% categories potential impacts assessed, impact values 7.4% 21.2%, including possibility saving 18 thousand kg CO2 emitted. After carrying out economic analysis, observed model presented optimal environmental-economic solution. indicate feasibility using and analysis tools during design process structures.
